SAGRANTINO - A noble and
ancient vine
The cultivation of grapevine in the territory of Montefalco
dates back to the pre- Roman age; even Pliny the Elder
described the good quality of this land in the XIVth book of
his masterpiece
“Naturalis Historia”.
It is narrated that, only afterwards, some Franciscan friars
began the production by drying rare and valuable grapes
originated from some vines called SAGRANTINO.
The wine produced by those vines boasts ancient regulations
which date back to the XVth century.
They aim at regulating and promoting the harvest and the
production of Sagrantino grapes.
In 1992, DOCG was established, allowing it a great
commercial opportunity both in the national and in the
international market. |
GRECHETTO
Grechetto is a
white wine, autochthonous of Umbria. Its origins date back
to the Middle Ages and they are strictly related to the
scents and the tastes of some wines imported by the
Etruscans about 3000 years ago from east Mediterranean. This
vine has found its ideal territory on the Umbrian hills.
Among the regulations concerning white wines with
DENOMINAZIONE d’ ORIGINE CONTROLLATA (doc) it holds a
leading role. It is particular for its pale yellow colour
tending towards green and for its variegated bouquet (fruit
and flowers).
